REC is a recommendation tool for TV, film, and podcasts. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and what we don't do with it.

What we collect

Email address — if you create an account, we store your email to send sign-in links and identify your account.
Titles you enter — the shows, films, and podcasts you tell us you love, the ones that didn't work for you, and anything you write about why.
What you're in the mood for — optional answers such as how you want to feel, how much time you have, who you're with, and how much attention you have.
Saves, reactions, and feedback — items you save, 👍/😐/👎 reactions, "Seen it" / "Heard it" responses, and refinement notes you submit.
Your taste profile — the profile REC generates for you. If you choose to share it, the shared page is public to anyone with the link.
Session data — an anonymous session ID is created for users who aren't signed in, so recommendations stay consistent within a session.
Usage data — basic analytics about how the site is used, such as pages visited and device type.

How we use it

To generate recommendations tailored to your taste.
To remember your preferences across visits if you have an account.
To improve recommendation quality over time.
To understand, across everyone who uses REC, patterns in taste and in how people decide what to watch or listen to.

Aggregated insights

We may create insights that combine data from many people, such as which kinds of titles get picked for which moods or situations. These insights are aggregated and de-identified: they don't include your name, email, or anything that points to you individually. We may use them, publish them, or share them with partners, including commercially.

What we don't do

We don't sell or share information that identifies you. That includes your email, your individual taste profile, and your individual history.
We don't use your data to target ads at you.
We don't share your personal data with third parties, except the services that run the app (listed below).

Third-party services

REC is built on a small set of services that may process your data:

Supabase — authentication and database. Stores your account and taste data.
Anthropic — the AI model that powers recommendations. Your inputs are sent to Anthropic's API to generate picks.
Railway — the server that runs the app.
TMDB and Apple iTunes Search — used to look up posters and details for titles. Only the title is sent, never anything about you.
Google Analytics — site usage analytics. Uses cookies to measure visits.
Sentry — error monitoring. Captures server errors to help us fix bugs. No personal data is intentionally sent.

Data retention

Your account and taste data is stored as long as your account exists. You can request deletion at any time by emailing us. Aggregated insights that no longer point to you aren't affected by deletion.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and let account holders know by email.
